What is Psychological therapy?

Psychological therapy is a supportive space that aims to support you explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. It’s an invitation to discover both your inner and outer world - from your conscious thoughts and emotions, to the unconscious patterns and behaviours shaped by early experiences, relationships, culture and biology. Having this awareness supports you to understand more about yourself and the world around you. When we experience a psychological issue, whether that be depression, anxiety, trauma, or stress, often times there is an underlying imbalance or disconnection between how we think, feel, and behave. Psychology is rooted in evidence-based practices, meaning its methods, techniques and strategies are founded on scientific proof.

How does it work?

Psychology sessions follow the format of traditional talk therapy. It is an interactive conversation between you and I. Session length is 50-60 minutes and occurs online. A psychological therapy session can look different every time depending on what challenge, difficulty or issue is presenting. Drawing inspiration from frameworks such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Polyvagal Theory, I provide a deeper exploration of the challenges and difficulties you may be experiencing. My knowledge base is founded on various evidence based and psychological methods including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) but my approach richly integrates trauma-informed and holistic approaches to support deeper self-understanding and healing.

What can I expect?

It’s important that you as the client feel seen and heard, so engaging with a therapist that can support your needs is central. I strongly recognise that every mental health journey is different and each of us require different tools. My approach to psychological therapy can be particularly beneficial for:

  • Trauma, PTSD, and C-PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship and attachment challenges
  • Complex family dynamics
  • Adjustment difficulties and life transitions
  • Stress and burnout
  • Nervous system dysregulation
  • Chronic symptoms
  • Feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or struggling with complex emotions
  • Individuals looking for deeper self-understanding and growth

Whether you are dealing with the stressors of everyday life, or navigating complex experiences, I aim to provide a compassionate, personalised approach to help you understand, and manage the challenges you face.

I continue to explore several other modalities including the integration of psychedelic experiences, psychosomatic therapy and psychospiritual practices to expand and evolve my knowledge base to best support you.

By combining psychological evidence-based practices with trauma-informed care and yogic philosophy I endeavour to provide a more compassionate, holistic path - one that acknowledges the nervous system, the wisdom of the body, and the Soul’s longing for balance. WYSEbymonique is founded on the value of equilibrium - finding the balance between science, philosophy, biology, psychology and spirituality. Understanding that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to therapy as we are all unique. Endeavouring to bring this balance into my practice, my hope is that your psychological therapy will bring about a sense of self-compassion, understanding and acceptance for the entirety of who you are and the challenges you face. Having a deeper understanding that what we sometimes see on the surface, symptoms and diagnosis, often leads us to deeper issues connected to past experience, conditioning, childhood trauma, and the psyche.
